Yes, it's easy to use Maestro or any other music font like any other
typeface. One just has to find the right keystroke for each musical symbol.
In Windows, there's character map to help.

There are also some other music fonts geared to this that are more
compatible with text typefaces as far as matching sizes and "baseline"
placement, such as Harmony and Shpfltnat, and many others. Sibelius comes
with Opus Text which uses symbols from its Opus font set up to fit into text
typesetting for this purpose.
