I notice that in the revised start up dialog box, that there is no provision for opening an "empty document" or "document without libraries". If upon further exploration I don't find where this option now resides, my workaround will be to open an empty document in an earlier version of Finale, save it immediately as a template named empty.FTM.
Did you look in the Files/New menu option? That's where it's been hidden in Fin2004.
