Jef,

Thanks for the tip. I think I have now discovered the bug that creates this problem, your idea below didn't quite work but set me on the path to finding it mainly because if you use the set up wizard then the part is auto opened after extraction and it it precisely THIS that retains the page set up (I'm talking about the one in the file menu) that has been defined in the score. I presume you also have this always checked in your extract parts dialogue? But I didn't. I always changed the page set up to A4 under the file menu in my extract file prior to extracting any parts (as used to work in OS9), but always to no avail. Here's why:

It makes no difference what is set in the finale 'page format for parts' under the options menu but is solely to do with whether you:

Extract the part(s) without checking the 'Open Extracted Parts' box, in which case all the page set-ups revert to 'Any Printer' and US letter (on my system) and therefore need to all be changed to the required printer and page size,

or

Just before extraction set the page set up (under file menu) to your required printer and page size (in our example A4), save and then CHECK the 'Open Extracted Parts' box before extracting. The parts all come out with the correct printer and page set up ready to go.

At last! This would have saved me hours over the last few months!

Thanks for the lead, I hope this helps others,

Jonathan

this frightened me, so i checked it out, and it worked fine: i created a document with the setup wizard, set a custom page setup of 11x14 for the score as well as the parts. all extracted parts retained the page setup. if your score format is different than the desired parts page format, save the document and redefine the page setup (eg. to letter or A4) just before extracting and you're on your way: extract, and undo the page setup in the score.

Just as you can't set up the page size from file menu and have it
retained in the extracted part from that file like you used to in
OS9. Coda say it is not a bug but that Finale can't access the OS to
do this, so it looks as if we will have to live with it.
