fmac2k5.

the short version: this may not work in all circumstances, but it seems that even during a hang (this was mid-dialogues in the text expression tool) the autosave function works.

the anecdotal version: assuming i lost a few to 20 minutes of very detailed work, i left the goddamn thing hanging and did a few domestic things to try to calm down - you know, do the dishes, drink espresso, that type of thing... - and to prepare myself to accept the loss and get on with my life. when i came back to the dumbputer, it was clear that despite the time i had given it to reflect upon its situation and our relation, it had changed neither its mind nor its nasty attitude, so i said "screw you" and flushed the bugger. now, whenever crashes or force-quits happen, i check to see if my file or the asv file is the most recent, and turn the most recent file into my new "original". well, i discovered that the autosave file was last modified only a few minutes ago, while i was doing the dishes!

okay so now i've lost more time writing this message than i would have if i had to redo the lost work, and see that in such cases asv files can save your files but not help you use your non-finale-related time efficiently.
