For practical and security reasons we use an OSX app called "little snitch" that intercepts outgoing internet connections from applications - they have to be granted permission to have access. Finale doesn't ever attempt to communicate over the internet except during online registration when you ask it to. We originally got little snitch because apps wanted to dial out on the 56k modem on the laptop all the time, but I'd also say it's peace of mind against spyware etc. if it ever gets to OSX. Anyway, forget it, it's a coincidence, Finale doesn't report back to base but I'm damn surprised by how many applications do though! Most of the time they look like software update checks that can probably be switched off in the prefs of each app, but it makes you wonder if shareware writers could be writing software that scans your drive for Credit card numbers and then reports them back to the author! -- Simon Troup Digital Music Art ------------------------- Finale IRC channel server: irc.chatspike.net port: 6667 channel: #Finale ------------------------- _______________________________________________ Finale mailing list [email protected] http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
