I can buy this, totally.  This is what I hear when I hear G - A - D
voicing.  By the way, Brazilian musicians I play with including ones I
have played in Rio de Janeiro, G2 means G - A - G, and that make sense to
me since 2nd of the scale is the cut-off point of the vertical chord
structure.  It however harder to solo on sight-read, of course.  Anyway,
I won't be able to digest sus2 concept.  It just doesn't make sense to
me.  I am glad I haven't moved to NYC :-)
