Patterson Beams is something of a special case. After all, it is named
for self-promotion. ;-)
But more to the point, I seriously doubt it would happen in the
foreseeable future. If it did, I couldn't be too upset since the Lite
version of PB is already available for free in Finale. There is almost
no difference between the two.
Your question is more to the point in the context of Beam Over Barlines.
Despite this plugin, I continue to hope that Finale will someday
implement true beaming over barlines. My plugin is a shortcut that hides
a monstrous kludge.
A feature I've suggested to MM is an enhanced feature for plugins that
would essentially allow them to be added to an "Automatic" list. That
is, we currently have "Automatic Update Layout" and "Automatic Note
Spacing". I have advocated allowing users to maintain a list of
automatic plugins. Like A. Note Spacing, the plugin would automatically
be applied to each frame as it was edited.
My question to Darcy (and the list) is if such a feature existed, then
PB could be both integrated and automatic. Would you still think of PB
(and other plugins) as add-on or (as some apparently do) "second-class"
features?
I am amazed to hear that any purchaser of my plugins or TGTools is only
using them two or three times per month. I use both many times every day
in my work.

If Finale offered integrated, automatic Patterson Beams -- let's say
Finale's Beam Options looked like the Patterson Beams dialog box. Would
you see that as a good thing? Or would you be upset that Finale was
rendering one of your plugins obsolete?
