Yes, Darcy, I asked for this along time ago too, but I was under
the impression that Finale never wanted to fix it. The "workaround"
which I was told to use (which I guess they don't consider a
workaround) is to highlight the area in the transposed part, under
Mass Mover Tool, Mass Edit menu, Change/Chord Assignments/
Transpose. That's what I've had to remember to do ever since.
Hi Kim,
I don't know anything about MakeMusic "not wanting to fix it" -- it's
clearly a bug, and a bad one. The current behavior is completely
indefensible. MakeMusic have obviously had higher priorities for
bugfixes over the years, but to the best of my knowledge, this bug
*is* on the buglist. [At least, I would bloody well hope so after
years of me complaining about it and encouraging everyone else to
complain about it!]
I honestly don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention -- I can
only assume not enough people have complained. (That's where you
come in, guys!)
As far as the "workaround" goes, it's a workaround that:
(A) you have to remember to apply every time you prepare your score
and parts -- and, in my experience, a lot of composers either don't
know about this bug, or forget about it during their last-minute race
to get parts reading for a reading session, or -- as in my case --
trust that the copyist someone hired for the gig knows about the
problem. Which clearly isn't always the case.
(B) is no workaround at all, because it makes it impossible to turn
"Display in Concert Pitch" off and on at will and still get accurate
chord symbols -- you would have to transpose the chord symbols every
time you turned off Display in Concert Pitch (for note entry, for
instance), and transpose them again every time you turned "Display in
Concert Pitch" back on. That's absurd.
Again, *please*, everyone, write to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and ask that this be fixed. If you've
written before, please write again. The 10-year anniversary of this
bug is coming up soon -- perhaps we can celebrate by finally
squashing it.
Cheers,
- Darcy
