Hi Dean,

Not enough information here.  We don't know if you were using the tupet system 
correctly or not.  In "Speedy Entry" mode, press "opt - 3" before entering the 
first triplet, and the entries will continue in the same value as the first one 
entered.  (If the first entry after selecting "opt - 3" is an 8th note, you'll 
get 8th note triplets.)  Or, put in one eighth note and click on it with the 
tuplet tool and select the correct tuplet definition from the dialog box that 
appears.  Make sure you have selected the correct values - so many whatevers in 
the space of so many whatever elses.

This has always worked correctly for me - over many years of experience in 
Finale, so I suspect that you are overlooking something.
