Wow -- I can't believe the legs on this thread....
 
Ironically (or not) - and yes, this was for real: just this past Saturday night I MC'd a partisan political event; while I was doing a particular litany of current-names-in-the-news patter, spontaneously threw in a chunk of the song, using "Tom-ah-to, De-Lay-to...."
 
.....and such small portions.

This was done as a sketch in the first of the British Amnesty comedy concerts, "A poke in the eye with a sharp stick" in 1976.
 
One person sang the song with no difference between the words, then said, "I'm sorry, I don't see the problem" (or something like).
 
Very funny when I first heard it. Alas, while I was in London at the time, I neglected/forgot to go to the concert.
 
Not sure if it's ever been reissued on CD, but it's a very funny LP.
