This error is related to memory in various ways. Finale used to have terrible memory handling, so bad that on my desktop (which still runs Win98) Finale 2006 is unusable (needing reboot every 15 minutes if I do a lot of expression/articulation dragging). I have to use it on the XP laptop. As I understand it, that exception is when a program doesn't release memory properly when the application is closed, and also comes up when there's bad physical memory. You might try this memory diagnostic: http://www.memtest86.com/ (You need to be able to burn a bootable CD-ROM for this.) David Fenton may have better ideas.
