Of course, this mutes these staves for the entire piece, which I'm sure Stan doesn't want. He only wants the staves muted when the clapping takes place.

To do this, he could either reduce the velocities of the clapping sections to zero using the MIDI Tool (and be sure that Human Playback is set to "incorporate" user MIDI data, or he could move the clapping sections to a layer that with "Playback" unchecked. (This will require changing the Staff Style definition to apply to the appropriate layer.)

Go to the instrument list window, pick the offending staff and there will be a mute selection on the left. You can also do this in studio or mixer view. It's not hard. Look in any of these places and you'll find a mute "switch".

I've done a wind band arrangement which involves some clapping. To notate the clapping I entered the notes of the bass (16va with my required rhythm, not the same as the bass) then used the staff style for rhythmic notation. Of course, during playback, I can hear these notes - which I don't want to!

How can I mute the bits with the clapping notation?
