Many of us have tried variants on the line/arrowhead. The best other thought was a clumsy combination of shape designer (two opposed slurs and a straight line). It's so hard to tweak that it wasn't worth doing either. (The best I had come up with was this: http://maltedmedia.com/images/longslurtest.pdf -- looks bad on screen, prints marginally well. But you can see where the edges overlap, and the tweaking is maddening.) I tried sussing out the Postscript myself, but no luck. For the Bezier folks: would Finale adding just one more central control point make it possible on an existing slur?
