To add to Aaron's suggestion,there's a handy $15 utility called FileChute that does this automatically and generates a URL for the file at the same time, so that you can then email the URL to the intended recipient, and they can download the file. Karen Guthery recommended this application some time ago, and I have used it hundreds of times.
