Looking at the appropriate pages in Ted Ross, he's got the first ending bracket aligned with the left edge of the thick bar of the repeat sign and the second ending bracket aligned with the right edge. Regardless of the exact alignment, I am used to seeing some space between the two brackets.

I think it is also common to have the numerals closer to the left side of the bracket, and to follow the numerals with periods.
