Font annotation are also used to calculate the distance between notehead and articulation.

There are some issues with the Opus fonts, particularly because they are what are referred to as "Naked" TrueTypes, which is basically a raw TTF
file outside of a font suitcase. Some work in Finale, some don't. I
haven't discovered a workaround yet short of messing with the font
itself.

On a side note...To clear up any misconceptions about font annotation
files, this is what they are, and how they are used in Finale:

Font annotation files provide the true dimmensions of a character in a
given font. The reported height of a character in a given font is
dictated by the tallest character in that font. For text fonts, that's
not a huge deal, since the tallest character in the font is not all that
far from the shortest alpha-numeric character in the font. In a music
font, the variation in the size of characters is far greater (in fact
the tallest character in Maestro is the Treble Octava [sp?] clef, all
the way down to a staccato dot--quite a difference!), which you will
notice in an application like Microsoft Word, when you use a Maestro
Font music character alongside a regular text font.

Font Annotation files are used (last I checked) to calculate selection
rectangles in the Selection tool, the curvature of Engraver Slurs, and I
think they may be used in some tuplet bracket calculations as well.

Hope this helps a bit.
