OK - got it.
Thank you Darcy.

Chuck,
Document Options -> Multimeasure Rests -> UNCHECK Update Automatically
You will then need to Select All with the Measure Tool and go
Measure -> Multimeasure Rests -> Create for Parts/Score whenever
you make changes to the score. (N.B. Doing this will reset all
multimeasure rest widths.)
There is no problem with Automatic Update Layout. You should leave
that ON.

Hi Darcy,
I am checking the results of turning of Auto update layout and
auto music spacing now, but I can't find Auto Update MM rests, and
this is also a problem, as I sometimes need to change the width of
the rest symbol to accommodate clef changes etc.
Where is that one?

Hi Chuck,
"Automatic Music Spacing" will *always* override your custom
measure widths whenever a change is made, whether you use linked
parts or not.
"Automatically Update Multimeasure Rests" makes it impossible to
permanently edit multimeasure rest widths, which you had
complained about earlier, so I'd assumed you'd turned that
feature off.

Hi Darcy,
Yes, I do have those on. Is that the problem? If so, so simple
to fix!
Thanks,
Chuck

Hi Chuck,
I have not seen this, nor can I reproduce it.
Surely you don't have "Automatic Music Spacing" turned on? How
about "Automatically Update Multimeasure Rests"?

Hi all,
I have asked this before, but I have forgotten if anyone had
come up with a solution.
Linked parts - edit measure widths in one line or another, go
on to another part, return to edited part and find the measure
widths have returned to their defaults. Of course, I
understand that one is always working in the score, so moving
these widths is affecting more than the part one is seeing and
editing at the moment, so I understand how the measures might
be being pulled back to their original positions.
There seem to be two choices: print the edited part to pdf
before moving to a new part and assume that those edited
measures will be misplaced, if any more work needs to be done
on the part later or; extract the part. In either case, this
seems to be a reduction in the functionality of the part
linkage. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Chuck
