This is a new one.
FinWin 2006c. It has never showed up before.
When I start Finale and print more than one copy of a file, lets say
two copies, the first time Finale prints two copies. The next time I
print two copies, it prints four copies, and every time after that it
doubles what I ask for. Single copies print OK.
I've restarted Finale and restarted the computer, same problem. This
does not happen in any other application program.
It sounds as if your printer driver is being changed and not changed
back when the printing is done. Then it is changed again in a "2 x
current setting" sort of pattern.
Check the printer driver and see if it is set to two copies after the
first multiple-copy printing job in Finale. I've never run into this.
If by "printer driver" you mean the Finale print screen, it reads one
copy like normal. If you mean some place else, you've lost me.
More bizarre behavior - today I was running off single copies of
individual parts in draft mode. The printer, or Finale, was inserting a
blank page between each one. (I know that sounds like a wrong page
definition - but letter size is letter size, as far as I can tell. I
think this is a brand new problem, also, although I haven't done that
much in draft mode.
The printer is a Ricoh AP2610.
I'll try to find a new printer driver, even though all the problems have
shown up only in Finale. I may reinstall Finale, since these are new
problems.
Thanks
I think you're on a Mac, aren't you? If so, I have no clue about
printer drivers on the Mac and what follows will be meaningless.
On Windows, each printer has a printer driver, and it is quite possible
to set defaults from within the printer driver.
Most applications send a "print x number of copies" command, which is
interpreted as a "this time only" command by the printer driver, but I
have encountered some combinations of application and printer driver,
where I had to manually set the number of copies in the printer driver
separate from the print dialog within the Application, and then remember
to set it back to the default of 1 copy once I have finished printing.
Most Windows programs have a button labeled something like Settings in
the print dialog which allows access to the printer driver to make
changes, but not all of them work the same way or actually make the
changes they appear to be making.
I'm sure the application developers would blame the printer-driver
developers and vice-versa, so when I have tried to resolve such issues
I've given up since nobody these days is willing to accept
responsibility for having screwed up their programming.
So my only point was that possibly the combination of Finale and your
printer driver was resulting in your printer driver getting stuck at
whatever number of copies you asked Finale to print, and then when you
went to print two more copies, Finale would reset the printer driver to
print "2 x current setting for number of copies" which was stuck at the
previously printed number of copies.
But as I say, I have no clue how printers on a Mac work so this may all
be gibberish as far as helping you sort out your problem.
