I have done this by showing the pattern as a repeat with a number bracketed above, rather than a multimeasure rest symbol. I also use this same method for repeated patterns across time changes. Sort of like this if you display monospaced: |---------- 6 ----------| ||: 4/4 = | 3/4 = :|| This means parts are different from score, as you suggested. (And I used this same technique in the old pen & ink days, too.)
