In fact in this period I'm doing a lot of vocal (choral) music, so this
is a real good advice.
One thing about that: I have a four staves choral piece, in one of these
I wrote the melody with many 16 notes, each with a syllable, in the
other staves I wrote accompaniment (all quarter notes). The auto spacing
makes the 16ths too close and the syllables "collide". Do I have to
adjust them manually in speedy entry?
The other boring thing is about elisions that occur so often in Italian
lyrics. It was so easy to use the underscore key, now it takes three
steps to do what took an only hit on the keyboard....

According to M. Cook, who seems to be the leading expert on this
question, hyphens work better in 2k5b than in 2k6c. So, if you do
vocal music, you might want to consider also the drawbacks...
Quoting him:
- From 2006b to 2007 (inclusive) all hyphens show, but hyphens
between closely-spaced syllables are too far right.
- In 2007a and 2007b, many (too many) hyphens disappear and a
hyphen at the end of the system is too near to the syllable before it.
- In 2007c, too many hyphens disappear, but a hyphen at the end of
the system now displays correctly.
I know of no fix to the disappearing hyphens between close syllables.
I am using 2005b for pieces with lyrics, and will continue to do so
until this bug is fixed.
I had many exchanges with MM about these hyphen bugs, but, despite the
numerous examples I sent, they won't acknowledge them. This is a
"feature" according to them, and asking them to fix the bug is asking
for a "new feature"... To which one should also add one more bug: the
fact that hyphens are not WYSIWYG - which means hyphens can appear on
screen and not print out, and vice versa. This has been acknowledged
as a bug, and I'm told developers are looking into it.
From what I've been told, 2008 doesn't address the problem.
