Hi Christopher and Paul,

Smart Find and Paint (Selection tool/Command F for selecting the area with the markings you want to apply elsewhere - Shift Command F for painting the markings) might be helpful in some cases.

I've been using note-attached Expression Metatools for years but I'd like to know if it's possible to assign a text expression to notes in several different instruments at once (e.g., all the orchestral woodwinds in a given measure).

I've searched the manual (under Expressions and Metatools) but can't find that info.

Paul,

No, you can't drag across notes and add expressions like you can with articulations (unless you create the expression as an articulation, which I used to do with dynamics before we had auto- placement) but there is a fairly easy alternative.

The Selection Tool in 2008 (and Mass Edit in previous versions) allows you to set ONLY note-attached expressions to be copied. So you put in all your dynamics (and articulations, slurs and hairpins too, if you want) in one staff, then copy ONLY those items to the other staves. It is actually pretty painless once you know the hot keys for bringing up the copy items dialogue box. The neat thing about 2008 is that once you have done all this, there is some inevitable nudging that has to be done, and you DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE TOOLS to drag around expressions, hairpins, and the like. Saves me lots of time.

Christopher
