Personally I think that this is precisely the problem. Simple is powerful, and probably easy to use, but for long time Speedy users it is simply far to confusing. Before they fix that a lot of long time users will stay with what they learned.
Also, to me, at least in 2k7, Simple always feels less solid than Speedy, one never quite knows what will happen with the next key press. With speedy I can use it blind.
