We should nag Finale to give us a choice. with Speedy and transposing instruments. I, like many, would like to play/hear a concert pitch note and have the transposed note appear. That's the way I think.

There might even be a third preference. Some might like to play the transposed pitch, hear the concert pitch, have the transposed pitch appear, possibly? It seems like it would be simple to give these choices (the non-programmer asserts).

Right, we all seem to agree on that. I still wonder why I didn't come across
this problem in the past. And it's strange that Finale doesn't give us the
option to work either way. Thanks for the answer, Dean!

CC: The simplest way to go about the whole thing, IMHO, is to compose in Concert Score, Go to Transposed Score to check and see if you have written the impossible, print it that way, and away you go.

Shouldn't your written Bb for the clarinet produce a sounding Ab, not a C?

Hi all! I'm working with Finale 2007. I defined a 12-part classical orchestra with the Wizard. Amongst these are a Bb Clarinet and an F Horn. The wizard set up their respective transposed key signatures correctly. I am also able to change them individually (as I did for the Horn, for which I wanted no key signature).

No problem so far. However, Finale is playing back the notes I enter, untransposed. For example, when I enter a Bb for the clarinet, it should sound a C, but it doesn't, it plays Bb! I worked with transposing instruments before but in smaller ensembles and it worked fine. I'm comparing the trasposition settings in either document and they're the same. How can I get around this problem?

Thank you very much,
Pablo.
