1. I still keep a separate file for parts, but instead of a different file
per part, it is a single file for all parts. This has tremendous advantages
over different files, although it is admittedly not the Holy Grail. Other
people insist on the Holy Grail of a single file, but if they have exacting
engraving requirements it probably costs them more time than maintaining
two files, unless they do *lots* of revisions after completing the score.
You should go ahead and create the parts in your score file, before you've
copied it, because you can move around elements in the score while leaving
them in their default positions in the part (or vice versa) before you
actually make a copy for parts.

2. Make sure you have the latest TGTools. I don't have the same level of
problems crashing as you are reporting. However, I have admittedly never
used Smart Extraction as shoot and forget. I always select the passages I
want and I always create all the staves for all parts before ever beginning
the piece, whether they are used in the score or not. I would not let
TGTools create staves, esp. in Fin12.

3. A huge negative of the Score Manager is the inability to separate
transposition from instrument. I don't know if this is an issue for you,
though. Another is the inability to easily see and control exactly where
doubling instruments start and stop, esp. if it is an upgraded file.

4. I use Page Titles for movement titles, and duplicate them on different
pages (hiding or showing as needed) for different parts. You will find the
new version of my Page Title Copy plugin to be a *huge* help for this,
because it automatically does all the hiding and showing. You may find that
expressions work better for you, but with my plugin, page titles are pretty
easy.

5. I also find Engraver tuplets to be useless and confusing. My Tuplet
Mover plugin will not auto-position them, so I stick with 20th century
tuplets even now.

6. Someone else will have to comment about HP.
