Well, yeah, it's a fantasy -- all the stuff we're discussing about this 
is fantasy.  If they close their British offices the employees there 
will have a choice -- move to the U.S. (if the offer of continued 
employment is made) or find other work.  If I had spent many years 
building a great piece of software and then didn't want to leave my 
native country because some backwards-thinking corporate shirts didn't 
want to maintain an office in my native country any more, I might 
consider putting my talents to work for free (while also finding other 
employment, it is to be hoped, but in today's economy that might be 
tough) to better a program that would drive my former competitor to its 
knees.

But even if Avid is keeping Sibelius (which seems to be happening) 
what's to happen to the programmers who choose not to uproot their 
families and leave their native country?

I would hope that they could telecommute, although without an office to 
work from, it might be harder to work as a team.
