I do feel your pain. I absolutely agree with everything you've mentioned. 
Wouldn't it be great if MM implemented hairpins in the shape designer as a line 
choice, in which case you could add dynamics to each end. I was told back in 
2007 this could easily be implemented. Nothing came out of it....
When I said "hairpin ends" I meant the very point of the hairpin changing with 
length. This could be seen with large magnification only. Hairpin ends go into 
a very sharp (hairline) end when they pass certain length. This started with 
Fin 2007. I want the end to be the width of the line, not a hairline... This 
would not be such an issue if they behaved one (either) way but 
not depending on the length.

And yes, Sibelius "magnetic layout" feature is way ahead of anything available 
in Finale, if used properly, not with default numbers.

ok so i only tangentially responded to your actual question, but i 
wonder if this was something that in fact did appear as linked parts 
were introduced?
