Dell has a superb 27" (Ultrasharp series) that does 2560x1440 for under $700. I bought one when they were $1000 and don't regret it a bit. Highly recommended. (Note: not every video card will support this resolution.)

Most large displays still top out at HD resolution (1920 x 1080). That's what I have, and I'm always wishing I had more real estate. Apple's 27" displays are expensive but they contain significantly more pixels (2560-by-1440). A few other manufacturers also make 2560-by-1440 pixel displays -- none of them are exactly cheap, but if you can afford it, might as well get the most pixels you can afford. I have a 27" - used to have a 30" - wish there were a practical way to go larger. Details that show up on printing tend to get lost when viewing on a monitor, even full size. Enlargements make problems more apparent. At least this has been my experience. Get the largest practical monitor - you won't regret it. > > Chuck > > On Dec 11, 2012, at 1:42 PM, SN jef chippewa <shirl...@newmusicnotation.com> wrote: > >> >> get one, definitely >> >> i have a 24" and can proofread / edit two facing 9x12 pages (zoomed >> to fit) clearly with just over half of the next page also visible. >> as needed, i can (for example) dock other things on the laptop >> screen, like PDFs of the part i just finished as i set up / edit the >> next part. >> >>> Wondering if you would tell more about your experiences pro or con >>> with using the large monitor.
