For decades I have gone into my favorite recording studio with MIDI files
made from Finale--usually orchestra scores.

When the MIDI files have been imported into ProTools, they come through
with tempos intact, the order of the instruments intact, and even the
instrument names.

I'm now working in a newer version of Finale (mac 2012) and the MIDI files
are a mess. The instrument order is scrambled, and none of them carry the
instrument names... which we use to cue in overdubs, crossfade, fixes, etc.

I am simply converting the Finale file to standard MIDI as I have always
done, but for some reason they come through completely garbled. The tempos
seem OK, so we can use it as a tempo map, but the rest is a mess. Usually
we can "see" the instruments and groups "coming up" on the screen during
playback.

Are any of you familiar with this process?

Also, when I convert the MIDI file BACK to Finale, I get the same thing.
Instrument sounds are mis-applied and the score order is totally screwed.

I'm hoping there's an expert out there who can help... in any case,
HELP!
