Hi John, for instance: With a Bb trumpet or clarinet, the part is transposed up a major second from concert pitch - so if the concert key of a piece is Eb, the trumpet and clarinet part will be transposed to F. This doesn't change if you're working without a key sig. - the part still has to be transposed up M2 from concert. If a keyless score has an E with a flat accidental, the part will show an F with no accidental.
Whether you're working on a keyless score or one with a key sig., unless you're really used to working with transposing instruments it's safest to enter all the notes in concert pitch and then add the transpostions later and let Finale work out the accidentals for you. If a chart doesn't have a key to begin with, how can it be transposed? Just looking to learn. Keyless scores are often transposed — just transposed without using key signatures.
