Dear list,

when trying to manage fan files using several finale versions
simultaneously, I prepared a common folder for my fan files and set the
programs accordingly. But, I notice that sometimes, there are
incompatibilities with some (?) notehad symbols - and articulations and
ties move up/down.

I had some concrete questions regarding the organization of fan files:
- is it possible to use the same fan file for different finale versions?
If not, is it documented if any versions are compatible?
- related to that, are fan files upwards/downwards compatible? That is, if
I create a fan file in finale 2010, will it be valid in 2014? I didn't see
any changes in the interface, but are there any internal changes?
- how does finale connect fan files with fonts, is it through the
filenames? E.g. Maestro.fan is for Maestro.ttf? I thought it was like
that, but then I noticed that a duplicate of a fan file stored in the same
folder did create an incompatibility - this was solved when I deleted all
variants and only one fan file was left. E.g. as if I had deleted files
"Maestro A.fan" and "Maestro B.fan".

And some small details:
- I usually just do "auto-annotate all" and save the fan - besides
fine-tuning for slurs, is there a particular reason why do detailed work
on these?
- I didn't understand yet which/when changes in fan files update in a
finale session. Usually I need to restart finale to be sure that changes
are shown in the program.

Best,

Joao
