i had a user who had installed XDarwin via non-fink means, I removed it all and installed everything, g77, without a hitch.
Jaguar, iBook.

Do "we" have a "90" compiler available?

Please submit a full bug report,
This smells of a stacksize problem. Can you say

limit stack 1000

and then fink rebuild g77 ? (I am assuming that you use tcsh, in bash it would be "ulimit -s 1000")

I use rpm in order to get some libraries for my work (Geant, Root, Dawn, etc...).
This is detailled in: http://www-jlc.kek.jp/~fujiik/macosx/10.2.X/
This is interesting. I had used rpm from K. Fujii a long time ago in 10.0. Haven't seen the version for 10.2 yet.

Would that cause a conflict?
I'll try to find out.
