Alexander,

The permission for /sw/fink is:

drwxr-xr-x 12 root admin 364 May 4 08:04 fink

which looks good (except for the number '12' whatever that means). However, when looking into fink folder I saw a ChangeLog file. Is this the file which is mentioned in the error message?

The permissions are as follows:

...
drwxr-xr-x 5 foo admin 264 May 4 08:04 CVS
-rw-r--r-- 1 foo admin 1252 May 4 08:04 ChangeLog
-rw-r--r-- 1 foo admin 10 May 4 08:04 VERSION
...

"foo" is my username which has administration rights. Apparently not all files are owned by root/admin.
"foo" is the same username which is used to login CVS.
Do the permissions look well (there is write-permission)? I can't think of a next step.

Thanks for helping me...
Peter

Do your permissions for /sw/fink look like this (from ls -l):
drwxr-xr-x 15 root admin 510 Oct 17 12:27 fink
?

Make sure you aren't missing write permission.

Hello,

I'm trying to upgrade fink on MacOS 10.1.5 to get in-sync with some packages. Unfortunately the command 'fink selfupdate-cvs' fails with an error:

cvs [update aborted]: cannot open .new.ChangeLog: Permission denied
### su failed, exit code 1
Failed: Updating using CVS failed.
