I don't think it's actually a problem with gimp, as such. My recollection is that OpenOSX used a crippled version of fink to do the gimp installation, and that's what causes the problem.
Check and see if you have a /sw directory. If so, then you should delete it. Also, what are the files (full path) with "gimp" in their names?
