I believe that everything is installed correctly.

I have did the [U]pdate command and the [S]elect command after which I
scrolled to "Perl Database Interface" hit a + key.

I return to the menu and started the install and I got the following which
lead me to believe that I select some packages to be removed.

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  apt* apt-shlibs* dpkg* fink* gettext libiconv* tar
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  dbi-pm time-hires-pm
