[Fink-beginners] Fink Commander

Since installing perl5.8 as described on the apple developer site,
Fink Commander does not work. That is, the beachball spins, but
no packages are ever listed. I think the cause is something to do
with the environment setting for locale -- 'LC_ALL'.

My .login sets 'LC_ALL' to 'C' in order to avoid warning messages. But
even putting the same setting into the environment preference settings
for commander doesn't help.

On the other hand, 'fink list' etc works from the terminal command line.
