The rename of /usr/local worked beautifully and R seems to have installed well, but now I am having windowing problems, i.e.:
-if I run R on the Darwin side, it says it can't open an x11 window
-if I run R on the Oroborosx side, it will open an x11 graphics window, but as soon as i return to the command window, it all shuts down ("Oroborosx has unexpectedly... " etc)
-NB in neither case does the graphics window open automatically
any ideas?
thanks again,

It looks like fink is unhappy with /usr/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib:As I mentioned before, I'm running OS 10.2.3 with the 10.2 developers
What people usually wind up doing in this case is to temporarily rename /usr/local (e.g. /usr/local.moved) and then try the install again.
