When I try to install ghostscript 7:
[r-ibook:~] ibook% sudo fink install ghostscript Password: Information about 925 packages read in 19 seconds.

(lots of compiler messages deleted)
...anyone know what the problem is?
It's not clear to me that there is any problem. What you included looked normal output, as far as it went. (There may be a great deal of it, since fink compiles the package from source.) Did you let the process continue until completion? At the very end, just before the next "[r-ibook:~] ibook%" prompt, was there a message beginning, "failed:..."? If so, could you include the lines before it? If not, maybe your installation succeeded (try "fink list ghostscript" and see if ghostscript-7 is listed as installed.)
