well, I've been having problems all over- Finder doesn't work and it seems to be related to the windows managers- I get this err from X11:

gnome-session

at which point, I have to control-c out
after changing owner of /tmp/.ICE-unix to root, i get this:

after which it went back to prompt and right before I started typing, spewed:

If I log in as >console or single-user mode, I get this on a repeated basis:
(ipc/send) invalid destination port : initCGDisplayState : cannot map display interlocks
kCGErrorFailure : CGSNewConnection cannot map display interlocks

any clue? any help would be appreciated.
I also noticed in /tmp that .X11-unix is owned by me and not root, should it also be root?
