I have had fink installed on my computer (ibook 500, OS 10.2.6) for a few years. I was trying to update the xdvi package, when fink prompted me to choose from:
(1) ghostscript: Interpreter for PostScript and PDF
(2) ghostscript6: Interpreter for PostScript and PDF, v6.01
(3) system-ghostscript6: Placeholder package for manually installed ghostscript 6.01
At this stage, I was already skeptical about the accuracy of the question, since I have system-ghostscript8 installed, because I have a manually installed ghostscript 8 (as well as a manually installed tex distribution). But I chose to answer 3, at doubt.
Then fink told me that system-ghostscript6 was conflicting with system-ghostscript8 (which seems rather normal) and refused to proceed.
I have tried to remove xdvi (purge) and install xdvi-system-tetex, but it does the same thing.
What can I do? How come he prompts me for ghostscript 6, and not 8. Is there a configuration file that should be modified somewhere? Should I maybe remove and reinstall system-tetex?
Thanks for any help.
