To use KDE as your windowing system in XDarwin, create a file called ".xinitrc" in your home directory, with the following lines:
source /sw/bin/init.sh
/sw/bin/startkde >/tmp/kde.log 2>&1
Note that this will overwrite an existing .xinitrc file!
>From other advice, I had already created an ~/.xinitrc file by copying /private/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
Should I add to this existing ~/.xinitrc or replace it?
And if I add to it, do the lines go at the start, the end, or "does not matter"?
