I've finally gotten fink to work and would like to run gaim. i installed it without error but when i startx and type gaim in the xterm window, i get buffer error. any idea what that means?
Can you paste the exact error into a message?
i'm running the latest fink binaries on panther. also, i keep reading aobut xdarwin.app what is that that bc i don't have it, all i have is x11 in my utilities.
You would only have it if you installed XFree86 (instead of Apple's X11). It's nothing to worry about.
further, i hvae gotten other programs to work like xmms and xpilot. also, i don't seem to have a .xinitrc or .cshrc aren't theysupposed to be my user's home directory?
Only if you create them yourself. Otherwise the system will use its own startup file (e.g.
/private/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc).
do i need them? thanks
Since the default shell on Panther is bash, you don't need a .cshrc . Presumably Fink set up the corresponding file for bash, ~/.profile, for you as part of its setup.
You may want to create a .xinitrc for yourself, if you want to play around with X11 but leave the system's version intact for safety.
