Hi,

I just bought a Mac running Panther and I can't get xfree86 to work with fink.

I understand I have two options: one is to use the xfree86 provided by fink and the other one
is to use the xfree86 that comes on the Apple installation disk #3.

Unfortunately, I can't get the fink version of xfree86 to work and I can't get the Apple-
provided version of xfree86 to be recognized by fink.

What version of XFree86? The latest version in the unstable tree works fine.

I understand that if I want to keep the version of xfree86 I have (the one from Apple disk #3), I
must tell fink to install packages system-xfree86 and/or system-xtools. But from what I
understand they are both deprecated. On top of that when I try to install them, fink tells me
there is no package to install anyway.

If your X11 installation is complete, then you should automatically have a system-xfree86 virtual package.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me out with this. I have spent the last two
days reading FAQ's and other documents and this is just driving me completely crazy now...
