I get an identical error, so I'd bet that it's a bug in the perl580 package--probably a leftover from 10.2-gcc3.3.

Try a selfupdate to see if there's been any recent changes in the offending packages, and if that doesn't work, you can forcibly overwrite the file:

I was unable to update-all. The problem turned out to be in package test-simple-pm581:

Well, I didn't take your excellent advice; instead I did

fink remove perl580; fink install test-simple-pm581; fink install perl580

The first two commands worked, the third failed:

/usr/bin/perl5.6.0 -pi -e's#/sw/src/root[^/]+## if/^install/' /sw/src/root-perl580-5.8.0-11/sw/lib/perl5/5.8.0/darwin/Config.pm || /sw/bin/perl5.6.0 -pi -e's#/sw/src/root[^/]+## if/^install/' /sw/src/root-perl580-5.8.0-11/sw/lib/perl5/5.8.0/darwin/Config.pm

On the other hand, I have Panther, with its pre-installed perl 5.8.1;
"fink-virtual-pkgs" gives (among other things)

Package: system-perl
Status: install ok installed
Version: 5.8.1-1
provides: perl581-core
description: [virtual package representing perl]

As a test, "perl -e 'print "Hello world\n";'" prints what it should. Is there any reason I can't proceed thus?
