I recently replaced a failing drive and moved /sw off of the failing drive and then back onto the new drive. Everything works fine (I read the FAQ which said this was expected, but that there might be traps). Even such complex things as KDE (which I compiled from source) and the system-tetex, system-ghostscript8, and xdvi-system-tetex.

I then moved /sw/src to another partition on that drive (sort of an Archival partition rather than an active one) and provided a symlink from the old location in /sw to the actual location of the src directory. This, however, does not work. I get errors during installations.

Anyway, no responses necessary as there is room on that partition for the src directory. I was just being anal and the errors force me to be a normal person. :-)
