This is a new one: In this situation, the fink virtual package system doesn't see this half-installed package, so building from source would start out OK, but dpkg is unhappy and wants to complete this installation first.
I added a compulsory "dpkg -l xfree86" to my fink-x11-debug script, so that it catches this case, too, where fink itself thinks no xfree86 package is installed.
