Hi,
I'd like to install svn 1.0.1 on a Mac OS X Server system. I haven't noticed
binaries for the ssl server version being available anywhere so I guess I
install from source using the unstable tree.
Yes, 1.0.1 is only in the unstable tree yet. As soon as i get enough positive feedback i will move it to stable.
I notice that the dependencies include things like python and apache.
The python dependency is only during build time. The apache2 dependency is only for the webdav server. If you install the client or svnserve, it it - too - only a dependency during build.
You can remove both python and apache2 packages again after svn is installed successfully.
I'm worried about having more than one of those kinds of things installed on
OS X Server -- I'm worried about things interfering with each other.
They should not interfere. Fink is built so that it does (should) not do that. I am running apache2 and svn and php4 from fink on a Mac OS X Server without problems.
For
instance, my understanding is that after installing svn, which causes fink
to install python and lots of other stuff, typing python on the command line
will invoke fink's python rather than the one that comes with OS X.
As i said, just remove the fink python package again. Or don't set the path to include /sw/bin.
I'm
concerned that that kind of thing could have repurcussions for the normal
operation of my server machine. I'm even more worried about apache.
I could just wait until binaries become available for the packages I want.
But I'm wondering if anyone has feedback about how safe it is to install
lots of packages into fink on an OS X Server system.
Well, as i said, i am using it on Server without problems. And i am eager to hear your feedback.
Thanks, Chris.
