It worked! I did /sw/lib/fink/postinstall.pl and after some installation
the tetex and other libraries reappeared in my FinkCommander list (which
now counts 1500 entries).

P.S. I will let you know how I come along with my initial xdvi font problem.
Your initial problem may well be due to having an older version of xdvi installed. The current ones for 10.3 are known not to suffer from this.
