I am missing system-xfree86-dev. I get it, I have Xcode installed, but
was confused about installing the X11 SDK separately. I'll try it over
the weekend (won't have access to my install disks until then).
Thanks,
J. Powers

Hi,
I tried to install gnucash which ended with an error message
telling me that I needed to try to manually install
tetex-texmf tetex-base
I then tried to install these files and got the following message

This package refuses to overwrite these. Remove them, then tell

install xfree86-shlibs again. (The package won't be recompiled.)

Help!!! I'm every bit the unix neophyte. Can anyone tell me what
this means? I'm running Panther with the x11 installation from
that came ith it.

This is actually the desired behavior. Check the FAQ:

Okay, but I checked the installation and it tells me that every thing
is up to date. I even tried to update just to be safe and it told me
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 20 not
upgraded.

Two questions for you:
1) If you run "fink-virtual-pkgs" do you have system-xfree86,
system-xfree86-shlibs and system-xfree86-dev listed?
2) If you have the first two but not the third, are you trying to
install tetex from source? If so, you need either to install from the
binary distribution instead or to install the X11SDK package (from
XCode).
