If you install XFree86-4.3 (i.e. the "xfree86" package), then threading is built in.

The "xfree86-threaded" packages (i.e. those based on 4.2.1.1) are a bit hacked to put in threading compatibility.

The only reason to care is that some applications require threads.

I'm reinstalling xfree86 and I want to know whether the threaded or non-threaded version is preferred.

I'm thinking I probably want to install one of them unless I have a specific reason to install the other, but I don't know which one should be the default nor do I know the reason(s) I might not want it.
