Hello fink users

I am a beginning fink user and I have been trying to install xfree86
on my g3 powerbook w/ os
X 10.2.

I have been having several problems...

If i do fink install xfee86 XDarwin dies immediately...

??? Do you mean that if you install XFree86 from Fink it doesn't work?

...
if I clean everything up w/ dpkg --remove --force-depends
and then do:
fink install xfee86 (which also installs the shlibs)
x apps such as xterm and I assume XDarwin have problems finding one of the dynimically linked libraries...

This sounds suspiciously familiar, but do paste a specific example in a message. In the past such errors have required reinstalling xfree86-shlibs ("fink reinstall xfree86-shlibs"

If i try to run xterm at a terminal window,
instead of getting a cannot open display warning I get a cannot find a
certain library warning
(cannot remember what library currently)...

When this occurs you should paste the specific error message into a mail message.

I am not at home now and unable to do so, I will later, sorry, I either dont remember to send a message to the list.. or I do it when I dont have access to my machine.. so i just sent the message...

Thank you for your input, I will redo what I have done and record the errors I encounter whe I try to do.. fink install xfree86

do you know anything about the "update" that is mentioned at the fink website
http://fink.sourceforge.net/pdb/package.php/xfree86
"
IMPORTANT UPGRADE NOTICE: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -- If you already have the fink xfree86-base or xfree86-base-threaded package installed, you cannot install this package with "fink install xfree86".

Instead, please install the xfree86-upgrade package and run the shell script "upgrade-xfree86". ----------------------------------------------------------------------- --
"

Thanks Mike
<snip>

That package used to exist, and I was quite frankly surprised to see that it was gone.
